The largest water reservoir in North Patagonia, “The Lake” receives fresh, clear, and oxygen-rich water from the Andes Mountains through some of the most important and renowned rivers in the area, including the Collón Curá, Chimehuín, Caleufú, and Upper Limay. Below this reservoir, the water continues to flow towards the ocean via the well-known “Middle Limay River.”

 

Our prime location within this North Patagonia water system, near these famous fly-fishing destinations, offers you the perfect opportunity to spend a day or two with us while exploring other fisheries in the area.

FLY FISHING

Fishing:

The high-quality water, perfect temperature, and abundant food supply in the lake produce a significant number of large fish. Expect to target big rainbows and impressive brown trout during your visit. Our guides will take you to excellent spots, including sight fishing over banks, cut banks, bays, and side channels. Boat rides are short as we are located in the prime fishing area of the lake. The landscape includes bays, rocky shores, cliffs, and stone points, spanning over 25 km of shoreline.

 

Location:

Piedra del Águila is a 2-hour drive from some of the most important cities and airports in the area, providing easy access from Bariloche (BRC), San Martín de los Andes – Chapelco (CPC), and Neuquén City (NQN).

 

Season:

The fishing season runs from the beginning of November until the end of May.

 

Tackle:

Rods: Fast action rods from 6-weight to 8-weight are ideal.

Lines: Both sinking and floating lines.

Leaders: 7.5-foot or 9-foot 0X/1X/2X.

Flies: Standard trout streamers, dry flies, and attractors. Nymphs can also be used with dry-droppers.

– 1 Professional English-speaking fishing guide (2 anglers per boat).

– Skiff boat with 115 four-stroke propellers, specially designed for fly fishing (casting platforms at the front and back, electric and satellite motor for sight fishing).
