The Lodge

Collon Cura River

There is a time and place for everything at Estancia Quemquemtreu…wading, floating, dry flies, nymphs, streamers…making it one of our guests’ favorite destinations in Argentina.

Estancia Quemquemtreu is one of the largest estancias in northern Patagonia at nearly 200,000 acres. The privately owned working ranch – dedicated to breeding cattle and polo ponies – is over 100 years old, providing a uniquely historic and authentic Argentina experience.

Patagonia Outfitters inaugurated and opened Estancia Quemquemtreu to anglers back in 1993. Quemquemtreu provides excellent access to the lower Collón Cura River, as well as private access to the smaller, intimate Quemquemtreu Creek. While fishing here, guests have a diverse menu of fly fishing opportunities: floating or wading the Collón Cura (widely renowned as one of the most productive rivers in all of Patagonia); wade-fishing on Quemquemtreu Creek; casting dry flies to rising trout; nymphing deeper runs that are loaded with fish; and casting streamers for aggressive, trophy-sized rainbow and brown trout.

The lodge at Quemquemtreu has a total of nine guest rooms, accommodating a total of 12 anglers. The main lodge has a cozy sitting room with a dazzling rock fireplace in the center. Guests join each evening at the beautiful lodge bar for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before settling into the dining room for a nightly meal that can only be described as incredible, fine dining in true Argentine fashion.

FLY FISHING

Neuquen - Argentina

From Estancia Quemquemtreu, we access the Collón Cura River, and the Quemquemtreu Creek.

We will take you on daily float trips in comfortable drift boats or rafts on the Collón Cura River, stopping to wade at pools and riffles. You will enjoy a wholesome picnic or an Argentine “asado” (barbecue) on the riverbank and a nice long rest before returning to more fishing well into the evening.

Our guides do love the Collón Cura. From the guiding standpoint the Collón Cura is the most “guide-friendly” river since it offers numerous and diverse fishing options and can be fished both from the boat and by wading in the countless channels and pools, therefore it enables our guides to be able to provide our guests with some of their best fishing experiences ever. In the Collón Cura fish will take big dries such as hoppers, stimulators and Chernobyl ants, as well as nymphs and streamers. Evening hatches are great and sometimes the fish even become selective and force us to match the hatches. Not only can one catch many fish but one can also expect to catch a monster brown, at any time (read article: April Browns).

Estancia Quemquemtreu also has its own small river, the Quemquemtreu Creek, flowing through the ranch property which fishes best December through late January.
